Keith Carter 2011-12 Artist in Residence

Keith’s finely detailed work is highly evocative of the natural world. The work, a visual field guide to fantastic forms, must be seen in person to be fully appreciated.
Keith was born in Annapolis, MD in 1984 Keith moved to Lee’s Summit, MO, where he spent a great part of his life.  After finishing high school he had not expected to to extend his education...until being talked into running track in college.  With this impetus, both athletic and creative sparks were nurtured at the University of Central Missouri in small town Warrensburg.
After graduation,  a year of working for a drug company was jettisoned in order to pursue his dream of becoming a full time artist.  After being accepted to the University of Southern Illinois’ MFA program, he began studying under professors Harris Deller and Pattie Chalmers.  The two have been greatly influential in the work he is producing today.
